OOC Info Post

I don't normally RP OCs, but Edmond is very dear to me. I created him in one of my Pokémon fanfics as an antagonist for Steven Stone in summer 2005. I haven't gotten him out of my head since.

Full Name: (Count) Edmond Valerius Flamberge

Age: 42

Gender: Male

Hometown: Lavaridge Town, Hoenn

General appearance: A very tall and rather gaunt man who always dresses elegantly and wears several attention-grabbing jewels at once. His shoulders are pretty narrow, but his muscles are well-toned. His skin is quite pale, but not chalky, although he desperately wishes it were that way (he spends more time outdoors, around his estate and in the mountains, than he likes to admit to himself). It's clear that he used to be a very attractive young man back in his day, but, now a forty-something, he's beginning to show the first signs of age (to his despair, a few, very noticeable wrinkles have begun to appear on his face). (This is him as drawn by my friend.)
Hair: Long and straight, a royal blue color; he likes to make slight variations to his hairstyle, but he always keeps long bangs that form a large "M" around his face when seen from the front.
Eye Color: Ruby red.

Accessories: He often wears pince-nez glasses with red-tinted lenses (he can still see pretty well without them, though he's aware that his eyesight is slowly getting poorer). He always wears a minimum of three valuable rings on each hand, most of them featuring big, shiny precious or semi-precious stones. They often change, except for the one on his right ring finger: his wedding band, 24k gold with a tiny ruby encrusted in it. At times, he carries a sheathed sword.
Clothes: The only colors he seems to wear are red, black and brown. He likes to mix and match them and changes his outfit pretty often. His clothes are all very elegant, expensive and somewhat flamboyant and old-fashioned in style. His favorite outfit consists of a red, long-sleeved shirt that looks like something straight out of a movie set in the Victorian period, black trousers and reddish brown leather shoes. Also, he likes to experiment with makeup. He hardly lets anyone see him while he's not wearing at least eyeliner. He also often uses white foundation and has been known to sometimes use lipstick, too.

Occupation: Collector (mainly focuses on rare gems, antique swords and rare Pokémon cards); Pokémon trainer; landlord; emergency financial supporter for Team Magma's activities; swordsman (in his spare time ... and he has a lot of spare time).

Backstory/Current Story: Edmond is a count, the last heir of the once-prestigious Flamberge family, who owns several acres of land between Lavaridge and Fallarbor Town. Two things have characterized the Flamberge family for at least two centuries: their love for collecting swords and other antique blade weapons, and their love of Zangoose, due to an ancestor who supposedly owed his life to one. Born and raised in the Flamberge Mansion (an enormous villa on the side of a mountain west of Lavaridge Town, not far from Mt. Chimney), Edmond has inherited both of these interests, in the form of the largest sword collection in the Hoenn region and a family of eleven Zangoose of different ages. At the age of 3, Edmond received his first Zangoose, a newborn whose name was Fang. During his youth, he was spoiled in countless ways, received some very good, if traditional, private education and became friends with Maxie. For several years, they were very good friends, and Maxie was pretty much Edmond's only stable contact with the world outside the Flamberge estate. And when Maxie started Team Magma, Edmond was extremely excited about it: meeting Groudon and harnessing its power was also one of Edmond’s dreams.

When Edmond inherited his family’s fortune, he also inherited their taste for collecting: not only was he determined to expand the Flamberge collection of swords, knives and daggers, but, fascinated by the wonders of Earth as much as Maxie was, he started his own collection of natural gems and finely crafted jewels. And though Edmond was never attracted to women, as the last Flamberge, it was his duty to ensure that the family name would live on. At the age of 40, he married Martha, a 20-year-old Magma Grunt whose parents owed Edmond money.

After the fall of Team Magma, Edmond lost all contact with Maxie. After waiting for one year, he set out on a journey to find him and traveled aimlessly all over the country. Maxie's disappearance troubled Edmond deeply, often making him quixotic and delusional, and, for a period, he was on the verge of insanity. Thankfully, his Pokémon, and especially his new friend Gallade, were always there for him to make sure he wouldn't lose his mind. In his darkest period, while he was in Sinnoh, struggling against the biting cold, he deluded himself he could challenge a wild Darkrai to a duel. It didn't end well, but thankfully, soon after he recovered from what was literally a two-week-long nightmare that could have been much worse without Gallade's help, things began looking up slightly.

Personality: Educated and very intelligent, albeit decidedly flamboyant. Not a stranger to the art of rhetorics, he tends to speak in long, ornate, often needlessly and exaggeratedly poetic sentences. To those who fail to get on his good side, he can be cold, callous and prone to anger. To all the others, he will prove to be a very emotional and passionate man who puts the values of life, love and friendship above everything else.

... Which would be very noble and commendable, if only his concept of reality wasn't as distorted as it is. He is absolutely certain, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that those values are nobly upheld and defended by Team Magma and that expanding the landmass is a necessary priority in order for life to prevail. This is partially due to Edmond's nigh-pagan beliefs, which result in a constant, almost morbid search for contact with the elements of Earth and Fire. He likes to take long strolls through his estate and the territory surrounding Mt. Chimney. When the need to expand his collection has made him travel outside Hoenn, he has always been ecstatic to see new mountains and volcanoes. Additionally, he appreciates those beautiful gifts of the Earth that are in perfect harmony with his luxurious lifestyle, which explains his love for gems and jewels.

In the past, his collections were his absolute priority in life. Upon Maxie's disappearance, Edmond soon realized what a mistake that had been. His collection had made him turn his relationship with Maxie into a strictly professional one, entirely based on the fact that Edmond would hire Maxie's thugs to retrieve (or even steal) pieces that Edmond could not obtain in legal ways. The bond between them had become fragile and was eventually severed; and when it was all over, Edmond found that all he wanted was for the two of them to remain friends. Now that, thanks to Gallade, he has finally seen the light, he's ready to make up for everything.

Edmond is almost unable to be romantically attracted to women, something that even now doesn't cease to surprise him. His wife is, according to his own words, the most wonderful woman he's ever met, but they've never been anything more than good friends, both of them recognizing that their marriage is just a matter of preserving tradition and appearances, and ultimately, the Flamberge name. They're both blissfully unfaithful to each other. Edmond in particular will hardly miss an opportunity to seduce a man he likes, though, much to his dismay, he finds that succeeding is becoming increasingly difficult as the years go by.

Edmond is extremely concerned about his appearance, and spends a good deal of time in front of the mirror every day, especially since he's learned that there are more important things than his collection. However, he isn't vain or narcissistic; he simply thinks that the people around him deserve to see him at his best.

Additionally, Edmond is completely clueless about technology. Poké Balls are pretty the only technological instruments he knows how to use. And when it comes to media, he finds that grammophones are much more practical than mp3 players. And in spite of how big the Flamberge Mansion is, it never had a single TV in it.

Pokemon:

Fang (Male) - Zangoose

- Fang is Edmond's oldest partner. They've been together since Edmond was 3. Even though Fang is very well-groomed, he does show the signs of all the fights he has been into throughout his life. His hair is missing in a few, tiny places, he has a few scars and a notch in his white ear.
- Ability: Immunity
- Moveset: Swords Dance, Crush Claw, Slash, Close Combat

Camerupt (Male)

- A Numel Edmond caught within the Flamberge estate. For some reason, the idea of having a Pokémon just like one of Maxie's has always made Edmond feel happy.
- Ability: Magma Armor
- Moveset: Earthquake, Eruption, Fissure, Rock Slide

Claydol

- A Baltoy that Edmond caught on his first excursion to the desert near Mt. Chimney. Though it's genderless, Edmond refers to it as a "she".
- Ability: Levitate
- Moveset: Earthquake, Earth Power, Ancientpower, Psychic

Absol (Male)

- An Absol that once wandered into Edmond's garden. It's larger than the average specimen, being big enough to ride on.
- Ability: Super Luck
- Moveset: Swords Dance, Slash, Psycho Cut, Night Slash

Gallade (Male)

- Gallade is the Pokémon Edmond pretty much owes his sanity to. While searching for Maxie, Edmond was once approached by a Ralts who sensed how deeply upset he was and wanted to console him. The two have never parted since. Thanks to Gallade, Edmond always has a sparring partner to practice fencing.
- Ability: Steadfast
- Moveset: Swords Dance, Slash, Psycho Cut, Close Combat

Rhyperior (Male)

- Rhyhorn was the second Pokémon Edmond caught while searching for Maxie. It is now a Rhyperior, and a pretty strong one at that.
- Ability: Solid Rock
- Moveset: Swords Dance, Earthquake, Rock Wrecker, Megahorn
